The Things I Don’t Understand

I don’t get it.

I don’t get why blacks and muslims are immediately associated with terrorism. When they fight for equality, they are shunned or silenced. But when a white declares war, it’s considered progress. When a Christian oppresses other beliefs, it’s called faith. You had the nerve to judge a person’s skin colour; but you put great efforts in supporting whitening creams and tanning. Oh the irony! I don’t get it.

I don’t get why it’s wrong to love a man if you’re a man, and a woman if you’re a woman. We can’t choose who we fall in love with. Sometimes, it just happens. Why can’t we simply be happy for them? For those who have finally found happiness in others? And then respect them. And love them both. Is your opposition really just because it defies human nature? Or is this just your inner green-eyed monster speaking? Because you haven’t found your other half yet.

I don’t get how hard it is for some to simply love a person for who they are. Regardless of race, or religion or sexual orientation. There is more to a person than the labels society gives them, than the physical shell they have. Why can’t people see that?

Are some just as narrow-minded as the people from before? If so, what changed? We call ourselves the better thinkers. But how is our generation better than last years?

I don’t get it.

I don’t understand the criteria of how some people view themselves or other people. Like why do some guys only see girls at face value? A ‘thing’ to be owned. And why do some girls even let those some boys treat them at face value? And let them walk all over them. Where is the respect in that? The respect you have for yourself and for others. Why can’t we just respect each other in the first place? Is it really that hard?

At some point, you’ll age; your face wrinkled and your body brittle. At this point, it doesn’t even matter how you look. But the beauty of a person’s mind—the gem that is his or her personality—those never changes. Each one is unique. Different. So… I don’t get it why others still try to be someone they’re not. Why do you think so little of yourself? Why do you let others devalue your entire being? Why do you let others judge you? Those judgements shouldn’t matter. Because in the end, it boils down to how you value yourself.

So love yourself more. I can’t find any reason why you shouldn’t. You are beautiful in your own twisted way. And if others can’t see that, it’s their loss. And if you can’t see that in others, it’s your loss. I hope they get it.

I hope you understand.
